Allen Bishop is the founder, president, and chief executive officer of Reference  Technologies. Mr. Bishop oversees the operations and strategic direction of the  Colorado-based aerospace company and is the chief architect of its Hummingbird® series of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), which are hybrid-powered VTOL unmanned aircraft. Mr. Bishop was recently elected to the board of Rocky Mountain UAS, which is presently coordinating the establishment of a major UAS test area in Southern Colorado. Reference Technologies is the first company to be awarded a FAA Certificate of Authorization (COA) in the newly formed test area. This COA is the largest volume of airspace authorized under the FAA COA program. It includes 8,000 square miles of multi-terrain and authorizes Hummingbird XRP flights up to 15,000 feet MSL. Mr. Bishop currently serves on several nonprofit boards including the Rocky Mountain Chapter of AUVSI as its president and UAS Colorado as a director.  Mr. Bishop’s business experience extends back more than 30 years when he founded both VisionTEK and Automated Storage Inc. (ASI). Prior to Reference Technologies, he successfully led a six-year corporate turnaround of a national records storage company as its president and CEO. Mr. Bishop’s military service included serving eight years in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 until 1975, when he was honorably discharged. His assignments included the Space and Missile Systems Organization (SAMSO) and a highly classified Defense Support Program (DSP-647) as well as other space-based surveillance systems. Mr. Bishop has been a guest lecturer at the University of Colorado’s Executive MBA School on the topics of Entrepreneurship and Startups. In 1975, he was issued his pilot’s license, and continues to maintain his flight status. He has been married for more than 30 years, has three sons and three grandchildren. He continues to enjoy amateur radio, flying, hiking, and scuba diving.
